Function / Position SummaryTo deliver instruction in one or more areas of Family & Consumer Sciences (Culinary Arts & Hospitality, Child Development & Education) that engages students in integrated content learning and technical skill development needed for post-secondary and career success as well as obtaining Industry Recognized Credentials.
Job Duties / Responsibilities- Plans a program of study that follows district guidelines and meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
- Implements research-based teaching strategies that engage all students; acknowledging a range of abilities of students and cultural backgrounds.
- Creates an environment conducive to learning and motivates students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
- Displays a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
- Plans for and guides the learning process toward the mastery of curriculum goals, and establishes clear objectives/targets for all lessons, units, and projects that are clearly communicated to students.
- Utilizes instruction technology and electronic resources to develop student-centered learning opportunities.
- Integrates technical, literacy, math and science skill development to provide relevant learning opportunities for all students.
- Implements school improvement plans and strategies.
- Collaborates with colleagues, students, community members, and/or parents on a regular basis, and as requested by the administration.
- Implements building and district assessments to monitor student achievement, and communicates progress to students and parents.
- Sets high expectations for student achievement and behavior and motivates students to work to their highest potential.
- Assists in the referral and diagnosis of students with learning difficulties, seeking assistance from other school personnel as required by Response to Intervention.
- Works cooperatively with building administrator(s) in assessing his/her teaching strengths and weaknesses, and plans and implements a program to improve his/her teaching competencies.
- Participates on curriculum, personnel, policy or professional development committees related to the educational program.
- May require facilitation of student run business.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy through the adopted student information system.
- Assists administration in implementing student discipline policies and maintains order in assigned area(s) in a fair and just manner.
- Possible participation in co-curricular student and organizations and competitions.
- Participation in Regional/ District advisory councils.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the principal, or other administrative staff.
- Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education, Major:
Family and Consumer Science, Focus:
Culinary Arts from an accredited university. - Illinois educator license.
- 2000 hours related work experience preferred.
- Teaching experience preferred but not required.
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
- This is a 9-month position.
- Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.
