ResponsibilitiesImplements student daily instructional plan in the absence of the classroom teacher. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of the District curriculum and goals in an effective manner, ensuring a safe classroom environment, proper classroom management, and maintaining reasonable rules of conduct encouraging self-discipline and responsibility. Serves as a positive role model for students, demonstrating professionalism that includes a positive attitude, positive and respectful communication, and professional appearance.
Job Duties / Responsibilities- Reports to the main office for room assignment upon arrival and checks out in the main office at the end of the day.
- Arrives at building (according to the school work day/hours) with enough time to check in, review substitute plans, and be prepared for the day when the students enter the classroom.
- Implements the instructional plans prepared by the teacher.
- Clearly communicates expectations and adapts to individual learning needs, providing individual and small group instruction.
- Follows all necessary and reasonable safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Provides feedback to the teacher regarding instruction, discipline, and other events of the day.
- Maintains a professional and positive rapport with parents/co-workers/administration.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher or:
- Have recently completed (within the last semester) at least 90 semester hours of coursework as part of the approved Illinois educator preparation program with a Professional Educator License (PEL) in Pre-Completion status within your ELIS account.
- Have 60 semester hours of coursework or higher to qualify for the short-term sub license.
In order to work as a Substitute Teacher, you need to have ONE of the following credentials (REQUIRED):
- An Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) with a Paraprofessional (PARA) endorsement (Para Educator License or ELS-PARA); or
- A Substitute Teaching License - SUB; or
- A Short-Term Substitute License - STS (only valid until June 30, 2028); or
- A Professional Educator License (PEL) with any type of endorsement
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administration, parents, students and staff members.
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move. Lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
- This is a 9-month position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.
- The daily rate for this position is $130/Day Gen Ed or $140/Day Bilingual/Sp Ed
