Function / Position Summary

The Athletic Trainer ensures that all student athletes are healthy and safe as they participate in

extracurricular and interscholastic athletic events. Certified Athletic Trainers are healthcare

providers who specialize in the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries while

ensuring our student athletes receive the utmost care and consideration.



Job Duties / Responsibilities

  • Work effectively with the local physical therapy team and the physician providing collaborative care in the best interest of the athlete to ensure a safe return to the sport.
  • Build and maintain relationships throughout the community that allow ease of access and streamlining of care for athletes.
  • Maintain strong professional relationships and communication with the school Athletic and Activities Director, physicians, coaches, and parents.
  • Showcase a desire to connect with athletes in a respectful, positive manner.
  • Provide medical care for home interscholastic practices and competitions, as well as all away varsity football games. The Athletic Trainer and Athletic Director will determine medical care of home interscholastic practices. Coverage will be based upon injury risk, frequency, and severity.
  • Assist coaches with the development of conditioning and injury prevention programs.
  • Provide initial evaluation of injuries to interscholastic athletes and initiate proper medical follow-up for athletic injuries, including following the concussion protocol and utilizing district software to conduct baseline testing and follow up testing if needed.
  • Design and implement rehabilitation programs for injured interscholastic athletes.
  • Make decisions concerning the return of athletes to practice and competition after injuries.
  • Maintain knowledge of current advancements in evaluation, rehabilitation, and health related aspects of sports medicine.
  • Apply protective bracing, taping, and/or padding when appropriate.
  • Provide educational and emotional counseling for injured interscholastic athletes.
  • Assist coaches with the collection of emergency information for all in-season interscholastic athletes.
  • Work with the Athletic Director to schedule all physician coverage for home varsity football games.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with local physicians in order to expedite the appointments for interscholastic athletes.
  • Consult on the selection and purchase of protective equipment and supervise the fitting of football helmets.
Education

  • At minimum a Bachelor’s Degree from CAATE accredited institution
  • Valid ATC Certification:
    Maintain current certification and continuing education requirements as set forth by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification
Experience / Knowledge

  • Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED Certified
  • Driver’s License in good standing
  • Professional

  • Strong interpersonal skills and positive problem-solving attitude
Physical Demands

  • Specific vision requirements include the ability to see at close range, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Possess the ability to fulfill any office activities normally expected in an office setting, to include, but not limited to: remaining seated for extended periods of time to perform computer-based work, participating in filing activity, lifting and carrying office supplies (paper reams, mail, etc.)
