Health Benefits Specialist (Insurance Navigator)

Greater Family Health is a multi‑site federally qualified health center providing comprehensive medical, dental and behavioral health services within the Chicagoland area. Our mission is to provide quality, affordable health care for all, including those unable to pay. We are Joint Commission accredited and PCMH certified, with health centers in DeKalb, Des Plaines, Elgin, Franklin Park, Hanover Park, McHenry, Palatine, Streamwood, Sycamore, and Wheeling.

Responsibilities
  • Provides in‑person assistance to individuals and small employers to complete applications and enroll in a Qualified Health Plan or other eligible health program.
  • Maintains expertise in eligibility, enrollment, and relevant program requirements.
  • Assists with health fairs, outreach events, and marketing campaigns promoting the Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace, the Affordable Care Act and new health‑coverage opportunities for Illinois consumers.
  • Facilitates selection of a private health plan on the Marketplace or, when appropriate, a public insurance plan.
  • Provides education and support for post‑enrollment activities.
  • Provides information in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner to the needs of the population served, including uninsured and under‑insured individuals.
  • Reports qualitative and quantitative information to the Health Benefits Program Coordinator on a regular basis.
  • Reports to all scheduled work sites and shifts on time and fully prepared to engage in all job responsibilities; location of work sites and shifts will change at the discretion of the supervisor.
  • Engages in all offered training, consultations and supervisions made available. Fully and professionally responds to and implements directives and advice offered by supervisory and training personnel, as well as professionally offered feedback from coworkers.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills.
  • Ability to complete and pass Certified Application Counselor Licensure within 30 days after hire.
  • Bi‑lingual in Spanish is required.
