Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) can perform waived, highly and moderately complex testing as stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1489). Must possess a degree of skill commensurate with the individual's education, training, or experience and technical abilities.

Each MLT must:

• Adhere to the laboratory's procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
• Follow quality control policies and procedures, documenting all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from performance specifications.
• Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance and either correct them or immediately notify the supervisor, director, or medical director.
• Perform waived or highly and moderately complex laboratory procedures using manual and automated methods in Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology and Immunology.
• Perform and document maintenance—daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed—on instruments and equipment as appropriate.
• Review the accuracy of patient results prior to release or reporting.
• Recognize age‑specific differences in expected results for newborns to geriatrics.
• Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples and stay separate from other laboratories until results are reported.
• May be required to perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups from newborn to geriatrics.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
• Adhere to all department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
• When a supervisor is absent, may act as Lead Tech, responsible for the section or department during the shift.
• Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director.

Education, Experience, Training:

• Current and valid state license if required in the state.
• ASCP certification or equivalent, preferred.
• Associate’s degree in chemical, physical, or biological science, or completion of coursework in a program for MLT.
• One year of hospital laboratory work experience preferred.

Competitive compensation: $24.32 per hour (range may differ based on skillset, experience, education, credentials, and licensure).
