Function / Position Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to assist with the daily operations of the Maintenance Department. Responsible for obtaining bids and coordinating contracted work, and overall upkeep of all District facilities. Evaluate alternative methods and procedures for greater efficiency in the delivery of services. Maintain confidentiality of information in the department and in the community. Travel within the district and surrounding communities is a requirement.

Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and oversee maintenance procedures, safety protocols, and preventive maintenance standards.
  • Supervise night maintenance staff, ensuring compliance with district standards, safety regulations, and work rules.
  • Assist in supervising maintenance staff and operations across multiple sites and shifts.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for after-hours maintenance emergencies, including system failures, utility issues, and weather-related incidents; coordinate appropriate response and escalate when necessary.
  • Monitor staff schedules, timekeeping, and assignments to ensure coverage and adherence to budget.
  • Conduct nightly inspections of building systems and facilities to ensure safety, security, and operational readiness.
  • Assign, monitor, and document evening maintenance work orders; communicate outstanding issues and completed tasks to other supervisors and the coordinator.
  • Provide coaching, on-the-job training, and performance feedback to maintenance staff.
  • Enforce district policies, safety procedures, and codes of conduct among assigned staff.
  • Participate in hiring, training, and evaluation of maintenance personnel; provide coaching, feedback, and professional development.
  • Assist with department budget, including tracking expenditures, reviewing invoices, and initiating procurement of supplies, equipment, and contracted services.
  • Develop project specifications, schedules, and cost estimates; assist with district-wide repair and update projects from planning to completion.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, administration, contractors, and other departments; coordinate special projects and/or events as needed.
  • Respond to after-hours and emergency calls 24/7; work varied shifts as required to support operations.
  • Attend training, meetings, and professional development opportunities.

Education

Education: College degree in Business (preferred) or a minimum of three to five years of maintenance services (or related industry) supervisory experience.
Credential: Certified Professional Maintenance Manager (CPMM) and Certified Plant Supervisor (CPS) credentials preferred. Must hold a valid Illinois driver s license.

Experience / Knowledge
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ supervisory experience in maintenance services, facilities management, or related field; experience in multi-site supervision preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, boilers, unit ventilators, air handlers, air compressors, fire alarm systems, security systems, plumbing, and general building maintenance.
  • Knowledge of school operations and related maintenance/security considerations.
  • Experience with planning, scheduling, budgeting, and personnel management.
  • Proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Strong computer skills, including Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to read and interpret operating procedures, blueprints, technical manuals, diagrams, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with Health/Life Safety codes, OSHA regulations, and ADA requirements.
