The Fire Alarm Service Technician II is responsible for independently performing advanced service, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex fire alarm systems and related life safety equipment. This position requires strong technical knowledge, field experience, and the ability to program, repair, and restore systems to full operation while providing excellent customer service and ensuring compliance with company standards, NFPA codes, and local regulations.
Job Responsibilities- Perform advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair on addressable and conventional fire alarm systems.
- Service and maintain control panels, detection devices, notification appliances, and communication interfaces.
- Program fire alarm panels and related systems, including modifications to existing systems and device additions.
- Diagnose complex system or network issues and implement corrective actions to restore full functionality.
- Verify proper system operation through testing and documentation of service results.
- Accurately complete work orders, service tickets, and all required reports in a timely manner.
- Provide technical support to Fire Alarm Service Technician I team members as needed.
- Communicate professionally with dispatch, customers, and contractors to coordinate and confirm service visits.
- Identify and recommend system upgrades, retrofits, or replacement opportunities to improve performance and compliance.
- Maintain company tools, equipment, and vehicle in a clean and safe working condition.
- Adhere to all company safety procedures and comply with NFPA, OSHA, and local codes.
- High School Diploma or GED required; technical or trade school preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in fire alarm system service, maintenance, and repair required.
- Strong understanding of addressable and conventional fire alarm systems and their components.
- Proven ability to program and configure fire alarm control panels (experience with multiple manufacturers preferred).
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening.
- NICET Level II in Fire Alarm Systems required or ability to obtain within 12 months.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and use of ladders.
- Ability to work at heights and in various customer environments, including commercial, industrial, and institutional settings.
Compensation:
This role offers hourly compensation, overtime pay is sometimes available. Pay rates are commensurate with experience, a level II Technician pays $24-$32 hourly or more based on experience, NICET certifications or other credentials.
