- Assist the head coach with organization of the program and conduct practices, motivate students, and instruct student athletes in game strategies and techniques.
- Organize and oversee specific program levels or areas of responsibility within the program.
- Work with the head coach and athletic secretary to verify participant registrations and eligibility.
- Develop game and practice schedules, facilities use, transportation needs, and program budget in collaboration with the head coach.
- Communicate practice sessions and competition strategies to ensure the health and safety of student participants.
- Attend pre-season parent meetings to review scholastic eligibility, athletic code of conduct, team rules, injury prevention, and inherent risks of the sport.
- Coordinate off-season, summer, and in-season schedules with the head coach; manage equipment inventory and care.
- Maintain a safe facility and equipment; supervise students before, during, and after practices and contests.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, school administration, staff, students, parents, and the community; maintain positive public relations with media and boosters.
- Work with students of varying abilities and backgrounds to instill commitment, discipline, and teamwork; model sportsmanship and fair play.
- Monitor students’ athletic and academic eligibility and collaborate with teachers and administration to keep academics a priority.
- Implement safe and effective daily practices and planned events; enforce discipline per district policies and codes of conduct.
- Collaborate on fundraising activities and maintain accurate financial records per district policy; contribute to program growth and community relationships.
- Prepare end-of-season records and statistics; participate in events as assigned by Head Coach and Athletic Director.
- Proper certification with American Sport Education Program and/or valid Illinois teaching certificate.
- Pass IHSA required tests and view videos.
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
- Demonstrated knowledge of coaching theory, strategies, and techniques appropriate for high school athletes.
- Proven record of emphasizing good sportsmanship, academic excellence, positive attitudes, and character.
- Knowledgeable in sport-specific techniques and strategies; ability to handle stressful situations professionally.
- Coaching experience preferred.
- Stand for long periods; occasional walking or other physical activity as part of coaching duties.
- Perception of sound, vision, depth perception, and manual dexterity to operate equipment.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures; lift equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Appendix F Stipend Position; reviewed annually by Athletic Director & Head Program Coach.
- Terms determined by IHSA calendar and school district policy; sport season per IHSA Calendar.
- For ETA coaches: position may be renewed without reapplying if satisfactory status is maintained.
- For Non-ETA coaches: this is a one-year position; must reapply annually.
