Function / Position SummaryThe primary purpose of this position is to facilitate the safe and timely transport of goods between the distribution center, district facilities, and other designated locations. This role also assists in receiving, processing, inventorying, and storing district supplies and equipment. Additionally, this role ensures proper documentation, vehicle safety inspections, and adherence to delivery schedules while maintaining a high level of customer service and compliance with all transportation and safety regulations.
Job Duties / Responsibilities- Efficiently complete assigned delivery route(s) within designated timelines.
- Report any issues that impact routes and/or workflow (construction, equipment malfunctions, load distribution, etc.)
- Maintain assigned truck, conducting daily pre/post-trip truck and trailer inspections and reporting issues in real time.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and organized warehouse environment.
- Support the distribution and collection of interoffice and outgoing mail by ensuring timely, accurate, and secure handling of correspondence and packages.
- Inspect and operate equipment safely, promptly reporting malfunctions and safety hazards.
- Perform cycle counts and assist with inventory as needed.
- Support the processing of building returns by identifying reusable items and ensuring the proper disposal of non-reusable materials in accordance with Board policy.
- Accurately pick warehouse stock items for fulfillment of work orders and other building requests.
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper lifting techniques, appropriate sanitation practices, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Load and unload district vehicles and receive deliveries from freight carriers, ensuring accurate handling and safe transfer of materials.
- Receive and process incoming freight by verifying contents against packing slips, promptly documenting irregularities or damage, and aiding in the reconciliation of purchase orders.
- Efficiently and accurately use current software that supports the daily operation of the Distribution Center.
- Assist other team members and departments as needed to meet operational goals.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
- CDL Illinois Driver's License with a class "B" and air brake endorsement (required)
- Holds or qualifies for a certificate of forklift operation (required)
- Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred
- CDL class “B” truck (2 years’ experience preferred).
- Two years of experience in the Warehouse/Distribution field.
- Two years of experience operating lift trucks, pallet jacks, and other common Distribution Center equipment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word and Google Sheets.
- Knowledge of district delivery routes and procedures, allowing for the possibility of route substitution (preferred).
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively and effectively with adults, students and community members.
- Ability to communicate verbally and successfully complete written documentation in English.
- Ability to sit, stand, kneel, stoop, climb stairs, and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift in excess of 75 lbs. with proper technique.
- Ability to work safely from stepladder, aerial lifts, and/or scaffolding at varying heights, up to 40 ft.
- Ability to push/pull 100 pounds with proper technique.
- Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions, including exposure to extreme heat, cold, humidity, and inclement weather for prolonged periods.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the DOT requirements for a licensed CDL driver in the state of Illinois
- Public contact requiring District approved uniform.
- Must be able to deliver products in a multitude of methods including manual conveyors and/or carts in multi-temperature environments.
This is a 12-month ESSO position. Salary and benefits are as established by the agreement between ESSO and the Board of Education. Flexibility in work days/hours and overtime may be necessary. Travel between buildings may be required.
Hours:
5:30 am to 2:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
A passing score of 70 percent or higher is required on the mandatory practical application test.
