Job OverviewThe Budget Analyst provides informational support to the Director of Budgets and Senior Budget Analyst to facilitate effective data‑driven decisions. The position provides comparative analysis of budget, position control, and financial data contained in the University’s Banner System. It will be responsible for all functions related to the position control processes for the University. Additional responsibilities include assisting the Senior Budget Analyst with preparing and presenting budgetary information and guidance to all departments and units.
This role proactively seeks to determine the needs of the units it supports to provide effective and efficient customer service and provide recommendations on complex and unique financial issues based on projections for spending and the current/projected fiscal environment.
The position will perform budget variance analysis, prepare and input standard budget entries, and organize and maintain data and records in support of budget transactions. The Budget Analyst is expected to independently perform standard periodic budgetary processes and tasks and coordinate and communicate effectively with all university departments.

- Proactively determine the needs of units to provide effective customer service and recommend solutions to complex financial issues.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or a related field.
- Minimum two years of related experience.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge to perform a limited variety of recurring and related tasks/functions using steps/processes/applications that are readily understood.
- Ability to provide assistance to others by troubleshooting simple technical problems.
- Analytical thinking: ability to identify, understand and determine the significance of issues, causes, problems, and opportunities; utilize resources to correctly determine issues; implement standard actions to resolve issues within established time frames and requirements; involve supervisor when necessary.
- Communication: ability to state information clearly and concisely in written and oral form; communicate information to appropriate staff in a timely manner; listen for content and understanding.
- Client/Customer service: identify internal and external customers; respond to customer needs within established parameters; be accessible and provide prompt, attentive service; demonstrate courteous actions and follow established protocol.
- Decision‑making: make determinations by following guidelines, procedures, laws, and regulations; consult supervisor as needed.
- Negotiation: clarify situation, share information openly, identify issues and concerns of appropriate parties; identify points of agreement/disagreement and consider needs and viewpoints of parties.
- Organizational sensitivity: basic knowledge of duties and purpose of own position; recognize interrelation of work units; understand customer role in meeting needs.
- Problem solving: identify and acknowledge basic components of delivery systems; seek resolution to problems; implement standard actions within established time frames; involve supervisor when necessary.
