Research Assistant

Position Overview:

A project‑focused research assistant role providing administrative and logistical support for a nuclear security nanomaterials consortium. Responsibilities include coordinating project activities, organising meetings, preparing progress reports, mentoring students, and helping with manuscript preparation.

• Provide administrative support for the PI and oversee project activities within timelines and budgets.
• Organise and conduct meetings with the PI and external partners, gathering documentation and coordinating schedules.
• Prepare regular updates and progress reports for the sponsor, including quarterly and semi‑annual reports.
• Assist in manuscript preparation and submission for journal or conference publications.
• Mentor and support students participating in the project, and help with their presentation and publication of outcomes.

• Strong skills in MS Office, MS Project (or similar), MS Teams, and Zoom Meeting software.
• Good knowledge of administration and financial IT tools, including People Admin, Banner, Chrome River, and Dynamic Forms.
• Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with faculty and students.
• Strong technical and analytical skills, ability to write technical reports, and effective organisational and customer‑service skills.
• Good record of MS‑degree‑level research experience in materials fabrication, sample preparation, material characterization (optical microscopy, electron microscopy, spectroscopic methods, nanoprobes), computer simulation for materials and devices, or machine learning for materials research.

M.S. in Material Science and Engineering, Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; 0‑5 years of relevant experience in materials research administration.
