Assistant Procurement Manager – APM Terminals Elizabeth

Purpose

The Assistant Procurement Manager supports the terminal procurement function by executing sourcing, contracting, supplier management and cost‑control activities. The role enables efficient, compliant and value‑driven procurement operations in support of terminal operations and APM Terminals network objectives.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Assist in end‑to‑end procurement activities for services, supplies, inventory and equipment at the Elizabeth terminal.
  • Support tendering processes (RFIs, RFQs, RFPs), bid evaluation, vendor selection and contract negotiation in line with corporate and terminal procurement standards.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Operations, Maintenance, Finance, HSSE, Supply Chain) to forecast spend and align procurement strategies with terminal business plans.
  • Develop and maintain spend analytics and support cost‑saving initiatives and TCO modelling.
  • Manage supplier relationships: onboarding, performance monitoring and contract compliance.
  • Adhere to global procurement governance, responsible procurement ethics and risk mitigation practices.
  • Implement digital procurement tools, process improvements and best practices to enhance procurement efficiency and transparency.
  • Liaise between local terminal procurement activities and regional/global procurement teams to ensure alignment of policies and strategic sourcing.
  • Support the Head of Procurement in preparing procurement reports and presenting insights to senior management.
  • Provide oversight in case of absence or capacity demands for the Head or lead role in defined procurement categories/projects.
Critical Qualifications / Skills / Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, procurement, engineering or related discipline.
  • 3–5 years in a procurement, sourcing or supply‑chain role, ideally in logistics, terminal operations or a complex supply environment.
  • Strong negotiation, contract management and vendor‑management skills.
  • Solid analytical capability and experience with spend data, cost models and market analysis.
  • Stakeholder management skills and ability to interact with operations, maintenance, finance and external vendors.
  • Familiarity with procurement lifecycle tools and systems (e‑tendering, ERP modules).
  • Demonstrated compliance with procurement policies, governance and risk controls.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self‑starter, adaptable, able to deliver results in a fast‑paced terminal environment.
  • Preferred:
    Port/terminal, shipping or logistics experience; global sourcing exposure; supplier performance management and contract lifecycle management.

Pay Range

$87,000 – $95,000* (anticipated starting salary range; final salary will be negotiated in accordance with applicable laws).
