HR Specialist - Operations

Position Overview:

The HR Specialist – Operations is responsible for providing human resources (HR) consultation to designated business units. Uses working knowledge of the business to provide HR support and guidance. Partners directly with site operational teams to define and execute HR strategies that align with business objectives and key initiatives. Analyzes trends and develops strategies to resolve HR issues, make a positive impact on business results.

Leads organizational assessments that convert strategies into result‑driven actions. Provides change‑management support as needed and acts as a liaison with other HR functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Implements HR initiatives that support Inland's goals, while driving a positive employee experience in partnership with operational leaders. This includes workforce planning, talent management, and succession planning to ensure that Inland has the right talent in place to meet its objectives.
  • Acts as an advisor to business functions, collaborating with leaders to understand their people needs and challenges. Provides insights and recommendations on HR‑related issues that impact business performance.
  • Oversees all station recruitment activities in line with business demands, including rehiring of candidates during peak periods.
  • Manages staffing approvals for assigned business units.
  • Raises offer letters and contracts of employment.
  • Implements change‑management strategies, communicating changes to employees, and ensuring that the workforce is engaged and supported throughout transitions.
  • Promotes a positive workplace culture and enhances employee engagement. Implements programs and initiatives that promote employee satisfaction, retention, and overall well‑being.
  • Manages leaves of absence and accommodations.
  • Oversees employee engagement with site management.
  • May be assigned duties not directly related to HR during times of low activity to meet business demands elsewhere, requiring flexibility.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of HR principles, practices, procedures, and employment legislation.
  • Proven ability to drive change and influence stakeholders at all levels. Able to work independently or in a team environment in a matrixed organization.
  • Trusted advisor with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and decision makers.
  • Organized and self‑motivated with the ability to build and maintain solid relationships, having confidence to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
  • Active listener and excellent persuader to advise operations on needed changes; collaborates with operational management teams applying firm HR functional knowledge.
  • Excellent communication skills, delivering multi‑mode communications that convey clear understanding of different audience needs.
  • Acts on people data to ensure confidentiality, completeness, accuracy and compliance with company policy and legislative requirements.
  • Sound judgment and problem‑solving skills.
  • Patience and ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to motivate and manage staff.
  • Professionalism and overall positive attitude.
  • Ability to multi‑task, adapt and operate at all levels when working under pressure.
Qualifications and Education
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business, human resources or related field is preferred (can also be complemented with 3+ years of experience at Inland, preferably in Human Resources).
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations as they apply to employee relations.
  • PHR/SHRM designation considered an asset.
