DescriptionThe ECT nurse prepares patients for electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), monitors their vital signs before, during, and after the procedure, and provides post-treatment care and emotional support,
They work with a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists and anesthesiologists, and are responsible for patient safety, administering medications, and educating patients and their families about the treatment process and potential side effects
Qualifications- Minimum 1 year of experience in behavior health setting
- Certifications and Licenses
Required: - NJ RN License
- BLS
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Part Time
- 24 hours
- Patient preparation:
Prepare patients for the ECT procedure, which may include starting an IV and ensuring all medical requirements are met, - Procedure monitoring:
Closely monitor the patient's vital signs and overall condition before, during, and after the treatment, - Post-treatment care:
Provide immediate post-procedure care in the recovery area, assess for any side effects, and help the patient recover from anesthesia, - Patient and family education:
Educate patients and their families about the ECT procedure, its purpose, potential side effects (like memory issues or confusion), and what to expect after the treatment, - Team collaboration:
Work collaboratively with psychiatrists, anesthesiologists, other nurses, and healthcare staff to ensure patient safety and coordinate care, - Medication administration:
Administer necessary medications as prescribed by the physician, - Documentation:
Keep accurate records of the treatment and patient's condition, - Emotional support:
Offer emotional support to patients and families, who may have anxieties or concerns about the treatment, - Clinic operations:
Some roles may also involve assisting with the day-to-day operations of the ECT clinic,
