JOB SUMMARY
Family Justice Center (FJC) is a collaboration of public and private agencies in Union County, NJ, to provide support, services, and resources for victims of domestic violence, with the goal of making these services more accessible and available. The collaboration represents a true integration of services that is fully client-centered and meets the needs of clients in a holistic manner and in a single location.
The FJC Legal Intake Worker will report to the FJC Director and carries the responsibility for client intake.
- BA/BS from accredited college or university.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in the legal field or an area connected to the legal field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the court system and legal reliefs available to victims of family/domestic violence.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience delivering direct client services.
- Must have good interpersonal skills and active listening skills.
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve.
- Knowledge of domestic violence (may receive training upon start of employment).
- Must demonstrate cultural competency in experience or education.
- Excellent verbal, written, and public speaking skills.
- Knowledge of computer programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power point, Outlook).
- Bilingual in Spanish.
- Greet prospective clients at the reception desk.
- Conduct intake/screening with clients to secure necessary information on demographics, domestic violence history, and service requests, with a focus on legal services requested.
- Review confidentiality and mandated reporting requirements.
- Review services offered by the FJC, and conduct needs assessment, determining what the client needs/requests are and how the FJC can assist in meeting those needs.
- Ensure adequate legal background information available for onsite or offsite attorneys.
- Schedule client services with on-site and off-site partners, utilizing FJC calendar and resource lists.
- Verify availability of partner staff to meet with client and accompany client to such onsite meetings.
- Accompany client as needed to additional onsite meetings.
- Schedule and verify any additional meetings and confirm with client. Arrange transportation and other needed logistics.
- Monitor client wait times between meetings.
- Follow-up to ensure that services were provided.
- Enter appropriate information into files or online data management systems.
- Communicate with Social Services Intake Worker and all partners to ensure that all client needs are appropriately met in a victim-centered methodology.
- Attend all partner meetings, staff meetings and supervision meetings.
- Complete all required reports.
- All other duties as assigned.
- All positions within the shelter will be trained to answer the hotline and for backup coverage on all shifts.
