This position is in the Office for Consumer and Environmental Protection, Division of Environmental Services.
The Agricultural Regulatory Specialist I job duties will include:
- Learns to perform basic inspections consisting of weed identification for the nuisance weedprogram using criteria set by the Division of Environmental Services per state and federal regulations. Performs spraying services for the Noxious Weed Spraying Program using acommercial sprayer and spraying approved chemicals on areas deemed to contain harmful weeds inorder to eradicate them.
- Learns to perform basic inspections for black fly and mosquito populations for Department of Agriculture pest abatement programs by identifying areas with large numbers and using fogger inthose areas to diminish them.
- Assists agribusinesses with chemical container collection and recycling in relation to stateand federal requirements administered by the Department of Agriculture. Collect unwantedchemical containers from businesses who have agreed to host a collection site and send to theproper recycling center approved through the Department.
- Completes operational reports for the pest programs administered by the Department. Maintainsspraying equipment and vehicle in good working order.
- Other duties as assigned.
This position requires: good communication skills, working knowledge of general computer skills, ability towork and complete tasks independently, possess a valid driver’s license and may require overnight stays.

Experience in agriculture, inspection, quality control, regulatory, chemical application or application or inspection of pesticides or restricted chemicals, or a related field will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Working ConditionsTypical working conditions will require travel to such places as stockyards, farms, businesses, and amusement parks. Has close contact with livestock animals in such areas as stockyards, barns and/or barnyards.
Probationary PeriodThis job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
