The Sanitation Technician is responsible for the cleaning of all equipment and infrastructure in a thorough and efficient manner, adhering to the proper sanitation procedures and guidelines while following safety rules and using their designated PPE. This position is responsible for disassembling/reassembling plant equipment and protecting sensitive equipment from damage during the sanitation process. The Sanitation Technician must understand how to operate cleaning equipment and exhibit the proper use of all sanitation chemicals and resources per regulatory regulations.
** Duties and Responsibilities****:
*** Food Safety & Safety:
Always perform tasks according to Safety and Food Safety Standards.  + Participate in safety training programs and contribute to the development of safety initiatives to promote a culture of safety.  + Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (SQF, GMP, HACCP, OSHA) and company policies and trainings related to food safety, sanitation, and environmental regulations (e.g., HACCP, Food Safety, GMP’s, Food Fraud/Defense, Allergens, Organic, Gluten Free).
* Must be able to learn how to clean the different types of machinery and know the type of chemicals that are used when cleaning. Must rotate cleaning areas every day.
* Cover all electronic devices and panels with plastic, prior to starting wet cleaning in the production area.
* Must be able to use an air nozzle, in certain areas; while using air sprayers nozzle, ear protection and bump cap must be utilized.
* Must be able to use a water nozzle, in certain areas; while using water sprayers nozzle, the proper PPE (apron, boots and bump cap) must be utilized.
* Must always check after cleaning any type of machinery and the equipment is completely clean, and all the parts are properly assembled.
* Ensures all the equipment used to clean is stored where it corresponds and not left in areas where it does not belong.
* Responsible for following proper Lock Out/Tag Out Procedures. Mixers, corn, and flour machines must be completely turned off and blocked with safety locks.
* Must be able to work in a team to be able to clean any type of machinery at the time that it is required.
* All the waste that the machines generate must be correctly weighed to obtain the exact totals to ensure waste totals are accurate.
* Report to the supervisor any safety hazard, such as any open electrical box, any loose cable or wires on any machine or anything that can cause a serious accident.
* Always use the ladder or scissor lift (if you are trained to use it). Never climb on top of any machine to do any kind of cleaning.
* All chemicals that are in a secondary container must be labeled following OSHA- GHS procedures.
* Must be able to operate the trash and recycling machines; responsible for notifying the supervisor they have reached their maximum capacity.
* Responsible for using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times such as safety Goggles, hairnets, apron, and boots (use boots whenever working in the washroom).
