Position Description
The Cosumnes Community Services District (District) Parks and Recreation Department invites qualified and enthusiastic candidates to apply for the Recreation Coordinator within the Youth Development Division. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by delivering high-quality recreation programs that enrich the lives of youth and the community.
Program AssignmentUnder direct supervision, plans, coordinates, and evaluates assigned program(s) for participants of a variety of ages and skill levels within a community-wide recreation and leisure delivery system. Incumbents may be assigned to a specific program(s) and/or facilities. Program/Facility areas include:
Teen Services, Youth Development, Special Events/Support Services, Leisure Enrichment/Therapeutic Recreation, Sports and Athletic Rentals, Facility Rentals, and Aquatics.
- Plans, organizes, and schedules programs, facilities and special events in the area(s) to which assigned;
- Provides courteous and professional service to all facility users, CSD personnel and the public; ensures subordinate staff provides a high degree of service to both internal and external customers; acts as a liaison to the public; answers questions and handles customer complaints;
- Performs related customer care follow up such as, but not limited to, eligibility requirements, program changes, class cancelations and wait lists;
- Leads and coordinates the day to day work assignments; may provide first line supervision to lower level full-time and part-time employees including assigning and reviewing work, conducting training, preparing performance evaluations and recommending discipline;
- May assist in preparing and monitoring a subsection of the program/facility budget;
- Maintains program standards; enforces rules and regulations of programs and facilities as mandated by CSD policies;
- Conducts work tasks safely and in compliance with department safety standards and the CSD Injury and Illness Prevention Program;
- Completes appropriate reports and forms including, ensures proper completion of reports and forms by part-time employees;
- Coordinates the design, printing and distribution of program specific informational, outreach and marketing materials such as, but not limited to, promotional flyers, brochures, manuals, handbooks and surveys;
- Researches and provides other assistance on special projects as assigned;
- Acts as a Department liaison with various community groups; may participate in various ad hoc committees;
- Purchase and maintain services, supplies and equipment in accordance with policy;
- Collaborates with Recreation Supervisors and Recreation Coordinators from other sections to oversee operations of recreation facilities;
- Required to work a variety of shifts including, but not limited to evenings, weekends, holidays to meet the needs of the department;
- May secure revenue and/or in-kind donations related to the area(s) of assignment;
- May secure and oversee volunteers for assigned projects;
- May perform higher level duties in the absence of staff as necessary;
- Performs various related essential duties as assigned.
The Recreation Coordinator's salary range is between $30.74 - $43.25 per hour. The District typically appoints new employees at step 1 of the salary range. Consideration for an appointment higher than step 1 will be based on experience, education, or the need for unique skills or knowledge, and shall be no more than the midpoint of the salary range.
Education and Training- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation or closely related field to the program area(s) assigned;
- A combination of both education and full time paid or other equivalent work experience performing community programming or working in the area of recreation may be substituted on a year for year basis.
- Two (2) years of increasingly responsible work experience or equivalent community/volunteer service in the field(s) to which the position is assigned.

- Possession of, or the ability to obtain, First Aid and CPR/AED certification within the first sixty (60) days of employment; certification must be maintained through employment;
- Must possess a valid California class C driver's license, with a satisfactory driving record as determined by the District insurance carrier and maintain it throughout employment.
- Must be 18 years or older
- Current methods, techniques, principles, and procedures used in good internal and external customer service;
- Current methods, techniques, principles, and procedures used in planning, organizing, scheduling, coordinating, and evaluating recreation programs or facilities;
