We are seeking a Lead Design Engineer to provide strategic direction and leadership to our Packaging design department. This role is responsible for managing design projects, ensuring accuracy and timeliness, and transforming customer requirements into innovative thermoformed packaging solutions while also contributing to the design process as needed.

Base pay range: $95,000.00/yr - $/yr

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 5+ years of packaging design experience — OR — Associate degree with 9+ years of relevant experience in the plastics industry.
• Experience in project management and team leadership.
• Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD systems.

Preferred:

• Experience in thermoform plastics manufacturing.
• Familiarity with quality systems and controlled documentation.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Oracle.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Lead and manage the design team, including scheduling and workload prioritization.
• Evaluate team performance and set development goals aligned with company objectives.
• Develop and monitor performance metrics to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Oversee external tooling procurement and vendor performance.
• Collaborate with Account Managers and represent the company in customer meetings.
• Drive ideation, concept development, and product design processes.
• Create complex CAD geometry, product, and tool drawings.
• Integrate thermoforming and manufacturing processes into design solutions.
• Ensure tooling specifications and performance standards are met.
• Support process engineering and production teams with tooling and product design.
• Approve parts and maintain specification databases.
• Manage engineering change orders and support production lifecycle improvements.
