- Facilitates a safe and caring environment for patients and staff.
- Develops processes to assess the delivery of nursing care to patients and families.
- Validates that care provided to patients is consistent and individualized.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of unit-based clinical programs.
- Establishes and supports quality improvement programs (unit based and hospital).

- Develops, reviews and maintains standards of care and practices.

- Prepares, monitors, and maintains annual operating and capital budgets.
- Develops unit specific goals reflective of hospital wide mission and goals.
- Demonstrates compliance within areas of responsibility for professional, regulatory, and government standards of care.
- Communicates with other managers/directors regarding departmental issues.
- Remains knowledgeable and supports policies and procedures.
- Promotes growth and development of staff.
- Assures staff proficiency in unitization of all clinical systems.
- Develops programs and provides support for continued professional development in nursing.
- Assures staff have achieved competency to carry out their designated roles and responsibilities.
- Works with HR to recruit and hire appropriate candidates.
- Investigates and documents all personnel issues thoroughly, recommending and executing disciplinary action when indicated.
- Facilitates collaborative relationships among disciplines/departments to ensure effective, quality patient care delivery.
- Maintains all unit-required credentialing (as appropriate).
- Works collaboratively with Medical Staff and Hospital Administration to provide for effective utilization management.
- Acts as Liaison with non-hospital entities.
- Works effectively with unit team leaders.
- Remains knowledgeable in specialty area.
- Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department.
- Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned.

- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

- Bachelor's Degree required. Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Indiana is preferred. A minimum of three years job related experience including one year of leadership experience also required.
