Position Summary:
This position plays a vital role in ensuring our facilities are safe, well-maintained, and operating at the highest standard to support life-changing programming for students from a level of direct support of the Director of Facilities. The ideal candidate is dependable, proactive, and motivated to raise the bar of excellence across all Five Star Life properties. This person works with the Director of Facilities and plays a vital role in management and leadership for facility team members.
Key Responsibilities:
Management of Facility Maintenance
- Oversee and/or perform general building repairs and preventative maintenance
- Oversee and/or execute small-scale construction, framing, remodeling, and improvement projects
- Oversee and/or conduct plumbing and electrical repairs
- Perform seasonal upkeep (e.g., winterizing systems, HVAC filter replacement, etc.)
- Coordinate with vendors and specialists as needed
Management of Equipment and Property Care
- Maintain and operate tools and equipment used for facility care. Ensure that routine checks, maintenance, reports, and files are completed to keep all tools and equipment working properly.
- Manage wood Burning furnace upkeep
- Ensure vehicles, tools, and mechanical systems are properly maintained and clean
- Monitor water systems (e.g., filtration/sanitization)
- Implement and follow equipment and property check systems
- Submit reports and request supplies as needed
- Manage and maintain proper equipment use and training
Project and Crew Management
- Support in the Director of Facilities’ efforts to manage work order requests to ensure that facility repair and maintenance tasks are tracked, scheduled, and completed as priority allows
- Support in the Director of Facilities’ efforts to manage property check reports to ensure that properties are regularly being inspected
- Support in the Director of Facilities’ efforts to manage the facility team members, to ensure work at a high level and with efficiency
Organizational Support and Other as Determined by The Business Office
- Participate in team meetings, staff workdays, service projects, and fundraising event support
- Support logistics for events and occasional fundraising activities
- Drive between Five Star Life sites (Elkhart, Union, and Osceola)
- Develop and maintain systematic and efficient approaches to all tasks to ensure completion at a high level and in a timely manner to support organizational goals and needs.
- Expense request order submissions as applicable.
Qualifications and Skills
- Licensed General Contractor - preferred, not required
- High level of character, integrity, and reliability
- Ability to work independently and solve problems with minimal supervision
- Skilled in general repairs, handy work, light construction, and facility upkeep
- Familiarity with electrical and plumbing systems
- Comfortable using power tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment
- Experience with skid loaders and large machinery preferred
- Able to lift up to 100 lbs
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Compensation Package:
Base Pay: $20-25/hr based on experience + Benefits
