Beacon Health System is hiring a full-time night-shift Charge Nurse for our Progressive Care Department at Elkhart General Hospital in Elkhart, IN.

Type: Full-Time/FTE 0.9 (36 hrs/wk)

Shift: Nights

Shift Details: 7p-7:30a, Every third weekend

About Elkhart Hospital

Elkhart General Hospital is a not-for-profit hospital located in Elkhart, Indiana. Our full-service, 357-licensed-bed hospital has served the community for more than 100 years with a variety of services including:
Emergency Department; radiology; orthopedics; maternity, pregnancy and childbirth; behavioral health; imaging and lab; genetic counseling;

What You’ll Do

As a Progressive Care Charge Nurse, you’ll report to the Director and/or Manager. You will be the administrative representative and nursing leader for a designated shift. You’ll assign job duties and patient care in order to facilitate high quality, cost-effective care. You will collaborate with other professional, clinical, and ancillary staff in providing quality care to patients.

Job Responsibilities
  • Identifying and addressing patient concerns promptly.
  • Managing bed assignments and patient transfers.
  • Communicating effectively with patients, families, and staff.
  • Supporting unit performance improvement and peer review.
  • Interpreting and enforcing hospital policies.
  • Adjusting staffing based on patient needs and skill levels.
  • Providing direct care when needed.
  • Assigning care appropriately and resolving staffing issues.
  • Reporting supply or service concerns.
  • Assisting with performance reviews and staff development.
  • Planning and prioritizing patient care.
  • Maintaining accountability and competence.
  • Upholding patient dignity and confidentiality.
  • Delegating responsibly while retaining accountability.
What You Bring

You bring strong clinical expertise and leadership to your unit, offering constructive feedback and participating in decision-making processes. As a Charge RN, you're flexible and responsive to scheduling needs, supporting both staff and departmental operations. You demonstrate excellent organizational and analytical skills to manage unit activities and resolve issues. Your ability to build effective relationships with staff, physicians, and patients makes you a respected role model.

Strong communication skills—both verbal and written—enable you to interact professionally across all levels.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required or certification in a specialty area.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Indiana.
  • One to two years of progressively more responsible nursing experience.

Salary: $43,635.00-$46,943.00
