Trailer Mechanic

We are seeking a skilled Trailer Mechanic to join our shop team and keep REK Express trailers safe, legal, and ready to roll. The ideal candidate will perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on our fleet of dry van, curtain-side, and flatbed trailers so drivers stay on schedule and customers get reliable dedicated freight service.

Applicants should have hands-on experience working on commercial semi-trailers and a working knowledge of air brakes, electrical systems, suspension, wheel ends, doors, and body components. The ability to diagnose problems quickly, complete quality repairs, and document work is essential.

This role requires attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently or alongside our diesel technicians. Clear communication with shop leadership and drivers, plus consistent adherence to safety and DOT standards, is critical.

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• Proven experience as a trailer mechanic, trailer technician, or similar fleet/shop role (diesel/heavy-truck experience considered)
• Working knowledge of commercial trailer air brake, electrical, suspension, and body systems
• Ability to perform DOT-compliant inspections and document work accurately
• Skilled with common shop tools, air tools, and basic diagnostic equipment
• Ability to lift heavy parts, crawl under trailers, bend, and stand for long periods
• Strong attention to detail so repairs are completed correctly the first time
• Good problem-solving skills when equipment issues are not straightforward
• Clear verbal and written communication for shop notes and team coordination
• Knowledge of and adherence to shop safety standards and DOT/FMCSA requirements
