Summary
The Teacher is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating the curriculum, and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Teachers must understand children’s cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide teacher assistants, and resolve parental concerns.
Duties- Implement educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.
- Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching.
- Plan individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth.
- Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, progress reports, and parent–teacher conferences.
- Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met.
- Ensure a healthy classroom environment – including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children.
- Supervise teacher assistants and classroom volunteers to ensure they are following planned activities, hygiene and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records, forms and files.
- Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.
- Preferable: a Diploma in Early Childhood Education (DPI) or an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education with classroom experience; willingness to train is acceptable.
- Must be healthy and able to work with children, with the ability to lift children up to 50 lbs.
- The applicant must be energetic and excited to be with young children.
- Staff should be available Monday through Friday during the center’s open hours.
All employees who work 38 hours per week are considered Full‑Time. Vacation and personal hours begin accumulating at hire; personal hours cannot be used until the 60‑day probationary period is successfully completed and vacation hours cannot be used until 1 year of employment has been achieved. Accrued vacation time, up to 80 hours, is payable when an employee leaves after fulfilling a proper two or four‑week notice;
if the employee is fired or leaves without fulfilling their proper notice, no vacation pay will be paid. Personal time may accumulate to 80 hours maximum and is not payable when an employee leaves. Neither vacation nor personal time may be used for the two or four‑week notice of termination of employment.
Full‑time:
Benefits such as Health Insurance, Disability, Flexible Spending Accounts, and SIMPLE IRA will be offered to employees who work full‑time hours on a regular basis. If you fail to have full‑time hours more than 2 weeks in a row, you may lose your benefits.
The following Holidays are paid at 8 hours to those currently working full‑time:
New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. If the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the day before or after will be the paid holiday.
Benefits for hourly and salaried staff include Funeral time, Group Health Insurance, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, Leave of Absence, Enrollment into a SIMPLE IRA, Center Closures, and salary-specific vacation and personal time policies.
