Director of Operations - Heavy Civil Construction

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Director of Operations in the Milwaukee area to lead and oversee project management across a portfolio of heavy civil construction projects. This role is responsible for driving operational performance, supporting project teams, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of experience managing complex heavy civil projects and has a proven track record of leadership, strategic planning, and execution across multiple project teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide oversight and leadership to project managers and project teams across heavy civil construction projects
• Establish and enforce consistent project management standards, processes, and best practices
• Partner with estimating, field operations, and executive leadership to support project planning and execution
• Monitor project performance, schedules, budgets, risk, and profitability
• Support staffing, mentoring, and professional development of project management personnel
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, quality requirements, and contractual obligations
• Assist with forecasting, workload planning, and operational strategy

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in heavy civil construction, with significant project management leadership experience
• Strong background managing projects involving earthwork, utilities, concrete, site development, or related civil scopes
• Demonstrated ability to lead multiple teams and projects simultaneously
• Strong financial, scheduling, and risk management skills
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
