Job Title:
HSE Officer & Occupational Hygiene Technician
Reporting To:
Global HSE Manager
Primary Responsibility:
To support the implementation and maintenance of an effective Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Management System in alignment with ISO
45001 and ISO
14001 standards. This role ensures compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, mitigates workplace risks, and promotes a culture of safety and continuous improvement across all operations.
Key
Duties & Responsibilities:
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):
- Conduct regular field safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Identify and mitigate workplace hazards in compliance with MSHA, OSHA, and company standards.
- Deliver safety meetings, toolbox talks, and assist with training programs.
- Monitor and enforce proper use of PPE and safe work practices.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and training teams to improve safety performance.
- Assist in emergency preparedness and conduct drills.
- Maintain accurate safety documentation and generate reports including environmental indicators.
- Provide on-site inductions for employees and contractors.
- Manage critical registers (e.g., inspections, hazard boards, calibrated equipment).
- Mentor operational personnel through presentations and incident learnings.
- Review and update procedures and safe work practices.
- Highlight training/certification needs to meet legal and industry standards.
- Manage contractor safety compliance, including audits and risk assessments.
Occupational Hygiene:
- Ensure occupational hygiene surveys and medical surveillance are conducted per legislation.
- Monitor results to ensure effectiveness of control programs.
- Evaluate and recommend controls for health hazards through inspections, surveys, and scientific analysis.
- Maintain knowledge of hazardous chemicals, respirable dusts, and respiratory protection.
Incident Reporting & Management:
- Support injury reporting and return-to-work plans.
- Verify incident logs and ensure timely closure of incidents.
- Conduct and support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and corrective actions.
- Compile and distribute Lessons Learned, Near Misses, and Safety Bulletins.
- Ensure non-conformances are resolved promptly.
Legal & Regulatory Compliance:
- Maintain working knowledge of federal and state safety regulations.
- Keep updated electronic copies of relevant Acts and Regulations.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies (e.g., Department of Labor, MSHA, EHPs).
Authorities:
- Refuse unsafe work.
- Exercise Stop Work Authority.
- Participate in all HSEC activities and initiatives.
- Perform duties as trained and authorized per the company’s training matrix.
Knowledge &
Skills Required:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Power Apps experience advantageous).
- Strong understanding of MSHA and OSHA legislation.
- Ability to interpret technical, legal, and scientific documents.
- Knowledge of industrial hygiene, emergency response planning, and lab operations.
- Strong communication, decision-making, and leadership skills.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently under pressure.
Training &
Education:
- Diploma or Degree in a relevant field.
- Industrial Hygienist I qualification (preferred).
- OSHA-10 and OSHA-30 certifications.
- ICAM Incident Investigation training.
- Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment certification.
- ISO system training and related technical disciplines.
Experience:
- 3 to 5 years in industrial, construction, mining, or exploration environments.
- Radiation safety knowledge is advantageous.
Equipment Knowledge:
- Familiarity with fall protection, rescue equipment, lifting gear, pressure vessels, and fume hoods.
Physical Requirements:
- Fit to perform job duties.
- Up-to-date vaccinations.
- Willingness to travel and work flexible site hours.
