Registered Nurse (RN) Cardiac Rehabilitation - PRN

Schedule: PRN - Day Shift - Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday (as needed)

• Prioritize and organize the delivery of nursing care and consult with other specialists as appropriate, adjusting nursing care processes to ensure optimal patient care.
• Teach patients and families about heart attacks, medication, lifestyle, exercise, diet, and short‑ and long‑term goals after discharge.
• Direct individual patients in graded physical exercise programs according to tolerance level and may assist with inpatient and outpatient exercise groups. Demonstrate knowledge of rehabilitation exercise equipment including treadmills, cycle ergometers, upper body ergometers, step machines and free weights.
• Assess patient’s physical and emotional adaptation to disease and report concerns promptly. Maintain chart review, ensuring all necessary documents for procedures are present and patients are prepared for scheduled procedures.
• Write initial nursing histories and develop individualized care plans for each patient.
• Present in‑service programs to other departments and community organizations about prevention of heart disease and rehabilitation of heart patients.
• Consult with physicians regarding patient progress and assist physicians in determining patient readiness for discharge.
• Focus on preventive and restorative healthcare needs of cardiovascular and pulmonary patients.
• Communicate with the Charge RN, Cardiac Rehab Medical Director, and the patient’s physician about changes in the patient’s clinical condition.
• Assist with the orientation, education, and training of all members of the Cardiac and Pulmonary rehab unit.
• Perform plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care.
• Document patient care given.
• Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition to the care team, physician, patient, and family.
• Assist patients in performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
• Collaborate across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual or psychosocial support.
• Evaluate learning needs of patient and/or family and provide education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
• Advocate for the physical and emotional well‑being of the patient.

• Current RN license.
• Associate’s degree from an accredited nursing school.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 14 days of hire.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 30 days of hire.
• A minimum of 2 years of RN Acute Care experience and availability to cover a minimum of 8 shifts each quarter.
