Job OverviewAs an Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) Technician at Komatsu West, you will play a vital role in supporting the deployment and seamless operation of our cutting‑edge Autonomous Haulage System technology integrated into Komatsu 930E haul trucks. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop expertise in advanced autonomous mining systems by performing hands‑on mechanical and electrical maintenance, assisting with autonomous system conversions, and contributing to continuous operational excellence in mining environments.
Key Job Responsibilities- Conduct thorough mechanical and electrical maintenance on Komatsu 930E haul trucks to ensure top‑performing and reliable vehicle operation in autonomous mining settings.
- Collaborate with and support Tier 1 technicians in the conversion process of haul trucks to autonomous operation, including commissioning and detailed diagnostic assessments of onboard systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance routine checks and repairs on critical mechanical components such as suspension systems, braking mechanisms, hoist functions, and steering assemblies to uphold safety and operational standards.
- Assist with essential Autonomous Haulage System functions including vehicle escort duties, system restarts, and managing unexpected obstacles to maintain smooth autonomous fleet operation.
- Maintain precise and up‑to‑date service records, properly following established escalation protocols when encountering complex issues or deviations to facilitate timely resolution.
- Communicate effectively and regularly with Tier 1 technicians, site supervisors, and other operational personnel to ensure consistent readiness and rapid response to maintenance needs or operational concerns.
- Engage actively in structured and progressive training modules designed to advance your expertise toward achieving Tier 1 certification within Komatsu's autonomous systems technical pathway.
- Adhere strictly to safety guidelines and environmental policies to promote a safe working environment for all team members and site personnel.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in heavy equipment maintenance or mining operations with a demonstrated understanding of demands of working in rugged environments.
- Preferred technical certification or associate degree in Diesel Technology, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.
- Fundamental knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems as applied to heavy machinery, including ability to interpret and work from schematics, manuals, and technical documentation.
- Strong aptitude for troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues using systematic diagnostic methods.
- Comfortable working in rotational shift patterns and exposed outdoor conditions, including high‑noise environments typical of mining sites.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to cooperate effectively within a multidisciplinary team and interact with supervisors and operational staff.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development within the autonomous mining technology space.
- Basic proficiency with mechanic tool sets conforming to Komatsu standards is required.
- Current MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) certification is mandatory and must be maintained.
- Certification to operate forklifts or manlifts is preferred.
