Northrop Grumman is in need of a Staff Propulsion Engineer to work at its Elkton, Maryland facility.

Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

Elkton, Maryland is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Job Summary

Conduct technical leadership activities of one or more solid rocket motor propulsion elements and/or other company products. Generally, works from statement of work from the customer, directs activities for other engineers, and reviews them for adequacy and technical rigor. Analyze requirements for materials, components, and functional systems. Select applicable analytical data from previous products, determine the technical principles involved, mathematically define the problem and compute the engineering characteristics consistent with the specifications, design needs, and requirements of other portions of the product.

Oversee and guide work performed by junior engineers. Develop original ideas, elaborate on preliminary design concepts, and execute product development, qualification, and/or delivery. Work checked through consultation and agreement with others rather than by formal review of superior.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide technical direction, with supporting input from relevant subject matter experts
• Apply theoretical knowledge, engineering techniques, and test data to the solution of complex components, sub-assemblies, and propulsion systems
• Works under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives
• Determine and pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired results
• Establish requirements for materials, components, and functional systems
• Determine engineering tasks required for project planning and execution
• Review work of lower-level engineers, provide guidance of activities
• Make recommendations for improving own work and/or group’s work
• Ensure that the product is adhering to contractual and technical data package requirements
• Lead/direct technical communications with internal and external product stakeholders
• Lead the engineering effort to accomplish major milestones, such as: gate reviews, technical interchange meetings, major test events, and product delivery
• Support earned value performance tracking on the project
