Automotive Technician at Transdev North America

Transdev is hiring for an Automotive Technician in Elkton, MD. This role demands expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines across various vehicles and equipment. As an Automotive Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring safety, efficiency, and longevity for our fleet.

Responsibilities
  • Perform limited repairs and basic to advanced maintenance on vehicles, including light bulb, fuse, lens, wiper blade, belt, hose, battery replacement, fluid level checks, fluid/ filter changes, and lubrication.
  • Maintain and repair specialty heavy‑duty equipment such as loaders, landfill packers, excavators, backhoes, morbark machinery, and Vermeer grinders.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and industry best practices.
  • Perform mechanical repairs under moderate supervision, including brake work, engine tune‑ups, suspension, drive train, transmission, clutch, hydraulic systems, and electrical components.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance work, parts usage, and order repair parts from designated suppliers.
  • Assist Tech III with preventative maintenance (PMs), safety inspections, and annual inspections.
  • Diagnose and perform all phases of vehicle and equipment repair under moderate supervision.
  • Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective actions taken.
  • Evaluate completed work and seek approval where required.
  • Assist with road calls and emergency services as necessary.
  • Adhere to Transdev standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Move vehicles safely between job and work area, clean vehicles as required, and maintain all shop equipment.
  • Other responsibilities as requested or required.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred.
  • ASE certification preferred; must participate in ASE testing program within 1 year (expected to have 3 ASE within 12 months of hire).
  • Intermediate mechanical aptitude and 3 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (preferred) or equivalent education and experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Intermediate problem‑solving and computer skills.
  • Comfortable using hand tools.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Maintain an organized shop and clean work environment.
  • Reliable and predictable full attendance.
  • Maintain adequate mechanic tool inventory.
  • Subject to DOT drug testing; DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.
Physical Requirements
  • Push and pull objects, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance.
  • Occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to access equipment stored at ground level.
  • Withstand heavy traffic areas and tolerate exposure to dust, vehicle fumes, and noise.
