Role - SEMH Teaching Assistant
Pay - £93-£105 (based on level of experience)
Academics are looking for a compassionate and experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Ellesmere Port. Focused on the mental and emotional development of children with barriers to learning, the school is looking for Teaching Assistants who are proactive and dedicated to supporting students with additional needs.
If you have a background in children's mental health, a psychology degree, or experience with challenging behaviour in a classroom setting, and you are based in Ellesmere Port, we would love to hear from you!
Key Responsibilities- Provide Targeted Support:
Work 1-to-1 or in small groups with students who display challenging behaviour or struggle to regulate their emotions. - Remove Barriers to Learning:
Adapt approaches to suit individual student needs, ensuring access to a safe and inclusive education. - Promote Positive Wellbeing:
Apply a strong understanding of children's mental health to foster positive coping mechanisms and emotional resilience. - Collaborate with Staff:
Work alongside teachers and other staff to deliver tailored education to students. - Create a Safe Environment:
De-escalate challenging situations calmly and effectively, maintaining a secure and nurturing classroom atmosphere.
- Experience:
Previous experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviour, emotional needs, or Special Educational Needs (SEN). - Classroom Background:
Practical experience working within a school or alternative educational setting. - Knowledge & Understanding: A strong grasp of children's mental health challenges, trauma-informed practices, and emotional regulation strategies.
- Academic Background: A degree in Psychology, Childhood Studies, or a related field is highly desirable, though not essential.
- Personal Qualities:
Patience, resilience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students who need extra advocacy.
Salary will be determined by the successful candidate's qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client's pay policy.
