Mechanical Project Engineer  Major Refinery Turnaround

Employment Type:

2-Year Contract  Outside IR35

Experienced in developing mechanical scopes and working with contractors and engineering teams?

What will you be doing?
Develop and deliver mechanical scopes for major turnaround projects
Support re-life, repair and replacement projects across vessels, boilers, exchangers, piping, valves and equipment internals
Review contractor designs, specifications, calculations, repair methodologies and workpacks
Support constructability, access, lifting, isolation and execution planning
Provide mechanical input into estimates, procurement, schedules and turnaround readiness
Identify and manage mechanical risks throughout project delivery
Provide technical and field engineering support during the turnaround
Ensure work complies with relevant engineering standards, legislation and site requirements

Where will you be doing it?
You'll be joining the engineering team at a major UK refinery, supporting the preparation and execution of a significant 2028 turnaround. The role sits between project engineering and turnaround delivery, giving you the opportunity to develop technically robust mechanical scopes ahead of execution before providing field engineering support during the turnaround.

What will you need?
Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent experience
Strong mechanical engineering background within refining, petrochemical, process plant, power or heavy industry

Experience with fixed/pressure equipment, boilers, vessels, piping or similar
Exposure to brownfield projects, shutdowns or turnarounds is highly beneficial
Comfortable reviewing technical documentation and working with contractors and multidisciplinary teams
Good understanding of relevant mechanical engineering codes, standards and regulatory requirements
Practical, delivery-focused approach with strong technical judgement
