The Howard County Recreation & Parks Department (DCRS) seeks an Reception Desk Operator for the 50 Center.
POSITION SUMMARYOversees all functions of the reception desk operations and provides principal administrative support for the 50 Center. Supports overall operations with member support, food service and facility maintenance. Serves as a team member for all aspects of the Center.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Greets customers, provides information, registers & collects payment for programs, sells and processes memberships in Active Net, makes appropriate referrals, assists staff and visitors.
- Opens and secures the facility upon closing.
- Provides administrative support including data entry, updating databases, managing electronics, photocopying, and maintaining email newsletters.
- Assists DCRS technology team with Audio Visual equipment, video conference equipment and Webex software.
- Reconciles daily receipts and submits them to supervisor.
- Maintains member communication including wellness calls, program updates and promotion.
- Coordinates in-person and virtual programs, setting up audio‑visual and technology training, and hosting virtual/streaming programs.
- Prepares rooms for special events, meals, meetings and trainings.
- Interfaces with Facilities on building maintenance, review inspection reports and prepare work orders.
- Works toward safety and security of participants and staff.
- Submits incident/injury reports to supervisor.
- Works on selected projects with 50 Center staff and other DCRS staff.
- Cooperates with coworkers and supervisors; attends meetings and trainings.
- Supports building partners with referrals, directions, and coordination.
- Adheres to programs, county policies and procedures.
- Manages staff rentals and building use by renters, community and nonprofit organizations.
- May require evening and weekend hours.
- Participates in activities related to Emergency Management as requested.
No supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONSMinimum:
High School Diploma or GED and three (3) years of experience or equivalent combination.
Preferred:
- Associate’s degree or equivalent.
- Cash handling experience.
- Customer service experience with older adults.
- Strong interpersonal skills, oral and written communication, ability to work with ethnically diverse populations.
- Strong computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, database management, spreadsheet applications.
- Proficiency in virtual platforms and technology for human services delivery.
Employees regularly required to sit, use hands, reach, talk or hear; occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl. Must lift up to 25 lbs. Moderate noise level. Reasonable accommodations possible.
LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and interpret documents, write routine reports, correspondence, speak effectively before groups.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to add, subtract, multiply, divide, use whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
