About Glass House
Glass House is an outpatient treatment center with a strong creative identity. We’re drawn to the artists, the abstract thinkers, the people who connect ideas in unexpected ways. We believe that imagination, self-expression, and curiosity have a meaningful place in recovery.
Creativity shapes how we approach the work. Music, art, storytelling, metaphor, and philosophical questions can open conversations that are difficult to reach head-on. We make room for people to explore their experiences, challenge their assumptions, and discover language for things they’ve struggled to explain.
Our groups are immersive, lively, and built to keep patients engaged. We want people thinking, participating, asking questions, and making connections that stay with them after they leave. That takes preparation, personality, and a counselor who can turn a meaningful idea into an experience the room can connect with.
Alongside that creative freedom, we take the fundamentals seriously: effective treatment, clear boundaries, thoughtful planning, and dependable care. The goal is to help people understand themselves, change destructive patterns, and build lives they want to participate in.
The role
We’re looking for a Drug & Alcohol Counselor who can bring both clinical ability and imagination to the room. Someone comfortable exploring an abstract idea and helping patients connect it to an actual decision, relationship, or challenge in their lives.
You should enjoy leading groups, have a feel for the energy in a room, and know how to invite participation while making space for quieter voices.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Developing and facilitating engaging, immersive groups that connect creative exploration with practical recovery skills.
* Providing individual counseling for patients with substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions.
* Completing assessments and developing treatment plans around each patient’s needs and goals.
* Following patient progress and adjusting treatment as circumstances change.
* Teaching strategies for managing triggers, preventing relapse, and navigating everyday challenges.
* Maintaining accurate, timely documentation and coordinating care with the treatment team.
* Supporting crisis intervention within your training and scope, and involving families and community resources when appropriate and authorized.
What you’ll bring
* Appropriate Maryland certification or licensure as a drug and alcohol counselor, or eligibility for the required credential.
* Counseling experience in outpatient, residential, or another behavioral health setting.
* Knowledge of addiction, trauma, co-occurring conditions, and effective treatment approaches.
* Strong group facilitation skills and the willingness to develop original, thoughtfully prepared sessions.
* An interest in creativity and abstract thinking, with the ability to make complex ideas accessible and useful.
* Sound judgment, clear boundaries, respect for confidentiality, and openness to different backgrounds and perspectives.
* Reliable communication, organization, documentation, and comfort using electronic health records.
* A willingness to contribute ideas, collaborate, receive feedback, and follow through.
Bring your perspective. Build groups people want to be part of. Help make recovery something they can connect with.
