Maintenance Technician – 2nd & 3rd shift, Ellington, CT

Job Overview

Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment in a food/beverage manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Observe mechanical devices in operation and listen to sounds to locate causes of trouble.
  • Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts and examine form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
  • Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  • Repair or replace defective parts, lubricate and clean parts as needed in accordance with food/beverage manufacturing quality system practices.
  • Install special functional and structural parts in devices and start devices to test their performance.
  • Continuously build knowledge and skills and share expertise with others.
  • Exhibit sound and accurate judgment and include appropriate people in decision‑making process.
  • Work with Maintenance Manager to prioritize and plan work activities and complete work in a timely manner.
  • Initiate purchase order for parts and machines.
  • Work within approved budget and conserve organizational resources.
  • Follow policies and procedures and observe safety and security procedures.
  • Use equipment and materials properly and report potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain inventory records and perform cycle counts as necessary.
  • Mechanic must have own basic set of tools, to include, but not be limited to the following items: wrenches & sockets, adjustable wrenches, pliers, nut drivers, screwdrivers and hammer.
Qualifications
  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills; competency in Inventory and Maintenance Related Software. PLC experience a plus.
Physical Demands

Frequent climbing or balancing; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions. Noise level normally moderate, but may enter production areas where noise level is loud and hearing protection is required.
