Teacher, Bachelor – Aroostook County Action Program
The Teacher plans, prepares, and implements all activities for an assigned classroom. Facilitates parent engagement through conferences and meetings, supervises, schedules, trains, and evaluates assigned staff and volunteers, and provides leadership in the classroom and center. In the absence of the supervisor, manages day‑to‑day operation and maintenance of the center, ensuring program quality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Plan, prepare, and implement classroom activities and field trips; introduce new modules; develop teaching strategies using classroom outcome reports; write and post daily plans.
- Complete screenings, record observations, and work with parents to plan and implement programs; supervise planning and implementation of classroom activities; ensure completion of programmatic and agency reports; conduct ongoing COR assessments.
- Plan and implement a cultural awareness program within the center, with at least one activity per month.
- Help prepare and supervise nutritious meals and snacks; purchase food supplies; foster a learning environment during mealtime.
- Orient parents as classroom volunteers and assist staff and parents in organizing activities; attend parent meetings.
- Coordinate and attend home visits.
- Interview, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff; maintain the performance review system; mediate conflicts; counsel employees; recommend disciplinary action; assess program equipment and supplies; order and distribute supplies as needed.

- 2–3 years of experience teaching young children in a center‑based or home‑day care program.
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Planning for individual needs.
- Establishing and maintaining safe, healthy learning environments.
- Conducting developmental screenings.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
- Ability to communicate with and relate to young children.
- Experience working with a diverse population.
- Ability to multi‑task.
- Promote trust and security by establishing strong, caring relationships.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field with at least 36 credits in Early Childhood.
- Credential or certification in family services or a related field within 18 months of hire.
- Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards.
- Must hold Ed Tech Certification (II or III).
- Open classroom/hands‑on learning philosophy.
- Working knowledge of Early Childhood Education.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Must pass required background checks.
- Must hold current C.H.R.C.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and provide proof of insurance.
- Maintain and promote the highest level of understanding of the agency’s mission, vision, and goals.
- Maintain confidentiality; protect the agency by keeping information concerning employees and those we serve confidential.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures with a "safety first" approach to all job duties.
- Exhibit a positive, professional, and collaborative attitude with others inside and outside the agency.
- Show teamwork through effective internal communication and working relationships.
- Be punctual for scheduled work and use time appropriately.

Environment
The work environment is primarily a child‑based classroom setting and occasionally residential homes. Risks may include unsanitary or unsafe living conditions, poor indoor air quality, unruly pets, exposure to weather, occasional local travel in inclement conditions, limited exposure to blood‑borne pathogens and bodily fluids.
