Job Summary

The Department of Computer Science and Information Systems at Elmhurst University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the assistant professor level.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and supporting students across the undergraduate and graduate offerings of the department and show the potential for excellence in research. Main teaching responsibilities include introductory and upper division courses across the CS curriculum. All department faculty may be assigned teaching duties in any of the department’s undergraduate or graduate programs. The CSIS department houses three traditional undergraduate majors:
Computer Science, Cyber Security, and Information Systems. In addition, it also offers master's degree programs in Data Science and Computer Information Technology.

The teaching load is six courses per year, with typical class size ranging between 10 – 25 students. Classes may meet during day or evening hours and may be offered onsite, online, or in a hybrid format. Candidates must have a commitment to creating an inclusive environment for a diverse student body.

Candidates must also be committed to a robust scholarly agenda in a computational science discipline as well as service to the department and institution.

Salary Range

$80,000 - $90,000. This is the expected salary range for this position. The actual salary offered will depend on a candidate’s experience and education, and departmental budget.

Essential Functions
  • Course preparation, teaching, grading, student advising, and being available to assist students who have questions or require assistance.
  • Ongoing scholarly activity.
  • Service on faculty governing bodies of the university.

  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s in computer science or a computational science-related discipline with significant progress towards a Ph.D.
  • Evidence of outstanding teaching or teaching potential.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. in computer science or a computational science-related discipline.
Working Conditions

Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object.
