DBA “USM ReRents,” US Markets, Inc. is the leading aerial construction equipment re-rental company in the US, renting straight & articulating booms, spider lifts, compact atrium crawlers and telehandlers to large equipment rental yards/companies all over North America (who, in turn, rent these booms and lifts to the end user - typically a construction contractor). We are a wholesale, re-rental operation.
Aboutthe position
As the Sr. Accountant for a 25-employee small business, you will be key to both the accounting team and to the organization – instrumental in supporting USM’s long-term growth! Reporting to the Controller as she oversees all financial and accounting activities of the company, you will support accurate financial reporting, maintain internal controls, and support strategic decision‑making. Strategic functions include:
Financial Management and Reporting- Engage in accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and GL reconciliations
- Assist in the annual budgeting process and monitoring of budget‑to‑actual performance
- Maintain the chart of accounts to ensure compliance with GAAP
- Invoicing on sales of equipment (assets)
- Manage tax‑exempt certificates
- Inventory Management – establish and document process & procedure, and reconcile to the general ledger
- Analyze work orders each month (capitalized?)
- Account for financial relationships between affiliated entities (“sister” small companies under similar ownership) including allocation of shared expenses, implementation of charge‑back mechanisms, and reconciliation of intercompany transactions to ensure accuracy & transparency
- Calculate sales commissions for the sales force
- Post entries for bank loans
- Assist in developing, implementing, & monitoring internal controls to safeguard company assets
- Be mindful of compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations
- Aid Controller in coordinating external auditors, banks and tax professionals for annual audits and filings
- Arrange monthly investor checks
- You will evaluate and enhance our accounting systems and processes for efficiency and accuracy, support the implementation of new financial software or tools as needed, and identify opportunities for cost savings, operational improvements & revenue enhancements.
- Coordinate, expediate and/or facilitate software conversion projects and tasks
- Collaborate with USM functional teams to support business initiatives and provide insights
In addition to supporting the strategic accounting initiatives above, essential accounting tasks include:
- Business analysis
- Monthly & annual closings
- The back‑up of A/P processes & reviewing/approving A/P check runs
- Backing up A/R processes
- Review invoicing to customers (search for errors & make corrections)
- Prepare & review journal entries & account reconciliations, and
- Identify & record accruals, prepaid expenses and other adjustments.
You will engage in credit card/expense reconciliations; audit and approve corporate credit card and personal reimbursement expense reports; oversee sales and use tax collection, reporting, returns and compliance; prepare monthly state tax filings; prepare ad‑hoc financial reports, and document accounting process and procedure. You’ll also manage the new customer account setup process (including credit checks), implement and monitor risk management initiatives, and keep related scanning current.

A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, and strong knowledge of GAAP
Three to five years’ relevant general ledger accounting experience
Microsoft Office Suite proficiency.…
