CNC Swiss Set Up Machinist – 2nd & 3rd Shift

$32.00‑40.00/hr depending on experience and preferred shift. We have openings on the 2nd (2:00 pm) and 3rd (10:00 pm) shifts. Must know how to set up Swiss Citizen machines.

Summary

CNC Swiss Set Up Machinist plans and performs a variety of machine operations utilizing numerical control machining centers to operate and set up machines as well as comprehending machine programming. This includes cutting, shaping, or forming metal work‑pieces to specifications.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Interpret complicated drawings, program sheets, instructions, and process sheets.
  • Perform diversified operations on numerical control lathes and machining centers.
  • Perform a variety of milling, drilling, boring, or related operations to close and interrelated tolerances.
  • Review job traveler, setup sheet, and specifications to determine machining sequence and dimensions of finished work‑piece.
  • Mount, align, and secure tooling, fixtures, attachments, and work‑piece on machine according to setup instructions.
  • Verify that fixture setup meets acceptable quality standards regarding milling and boring sizes, depths, angles, or other specifications.
  • Prepare, pre‑set, select, and install cutting tools in machine spindle or magazine.
  • Calculate and set machine controls to position spindle in relationship to work‑piece and regulate factors such as cutting depth, speed, feed, and coolant flow.
  • Enter commands or make adjustments to correct conditions that are out‑of‑tolerance or operating unusually, such as adjusting machine feed and speed and changing cutters when automatic programming is faulty or the machine malfunctions.
  • Observe and listen to machine operation to detect malfunctions, such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
  • Operate a variety of inspection equipment to ensure quality standards and specifications are met.
  • Measure work‑piece for conformance to specifications.
  • Recognize discrepant parts and notify lead/supervisor/manager.
  • Clean machine, work area, tooling, gauges, and parts.
  • Perform deburring as required.
  • Load program onto USB or disk from database, login to machine controller, or enter commands to retrieve pre‑programmed instructions from database.
  • Discuss programming errors with supervisor or programming personnel to resolve problems.
  • Train operators on process and procedures.
  • Induct operators following a completed and proven setup to make parts that meet efficiency and quality standards.
  • Communicate by leaving shift notes.
  • Perform preventative maintenance – follow work instructions or checklist.
  • Understand the function of the E‑stop button for safety.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Two‑year college or technical school preferred. 3 to 5 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of programming software such as Solid Works and Mastercam.
  • Knowledge of the medical device manufacturing industry preferred.
  • Experience with machining of various materials: stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, etc.
  • Strong understanding/experience of setting up Milling, Turning, Swiss‑turning machines.
  • Knowledge of G‑codes and M‑codes, Master Cam or other programming software.
  • Knowledge of cutters and inserts to select the right tools for the machining operations based on the component material, hardness and drawing tolerances.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5M.
