An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Production Planner to join a leading manufacturing organisation in Ely. This role plays a key part in strengthening production planning and operational performance through data-driven analysis and ERP system optimisation.
Acting as a bridge between office and manufacturing environments, you will support value stream improvement initiatives, drive planning accuracy, and enable informed decision-making. Working closely with the Value Stream Planning Manager and Business Unit Leaders, you will help deliver efficient, reliable, and lean-led planning processes across the business unit.
Responsibilities- Create and maintain production plans that support on-time delivery and efficient use of capacity
- Work closely with Inventory Control, Purchasing and Planning teams to ensure materials are available to meet demand (MRP, supermarket inventories, kanban)
- Collaborate with global and cross-functional teams to support day-to-day operations and improvement activities
- Review demand trends and help identify opportunities to improve lead times
- Attend daily planning meetings and share clear updates on production and supply status
- Maintain and improve planning data and system settings within the ERP/MRP system
- Review key performance data to highlight improvement opportunities
- Use data and visual tools to support decision-making on the shop floor
- Support product obsolescence planning by providing clear timelines and updates
- Support or lead office-based projects that improve shop-floor operations
- Contribute to structured problem-solving and continuous improvement activities
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems to support production planning (experience with D365 is an advantage)
- Strong analytical skills, with experience in data mining, report building, and dashboarding using ERP, Excel, Power BI, or similar tools
- In-depth understanding of BOM structures, routings, and lead-time management
- Awareness of modern production planning approaches such as flow, pull systems, and takt time (desirable but not essential)
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles
- Excellent computer literacy and understanding of ERP systems
- Positive, flexible approach to continuous improvement and problem-solving
- Willingness to adjust hours as needed to support onsite production scheduling
