Position Summary

The HVACR technician participates in the construction, installation, modification, maintenance and repairs of all aspects of various heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, energy management systems and boilers. Is proficient in operations of hot water, chilled water, building automations, refrigeration and pneumatic systems. Performs maintenance and repair tasks as required or directed by immediate supervisors.

Qualifications Education
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • Completion of formal apprenticeship program with certification from an accredited trade or technical school in HVACR.
  • Associates degree or higher in Heating, Air conditioning and refrigeration technology.
  • EPA certification for refrigerant handling.
Experience
  • Seven (7) or more years’ experience in the HVACR and building automation field in a commercial/institutional setting is required.
  • A trade specific license by a local municipality is preferred.
  • Metasys and/or Facilities Management Systems applications preferred.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Proficiency in HVACR and boiler control equipment and heating/cooling distribution systems with the ability to read schematics, mechanical drawings and blueprints.
  • Ability to test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in HVAC electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters and voltmeters to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
  • Ability to diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the root cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Ability to inspect HVACR systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate federal, state, local and ASHRAE regulations related to the installation and safe efficient operation of HVAC/Boiler equipment.
  • Ability to manage one’s own time and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Is able to independently read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language
  • Independently complete, in a satisfactory manner, a pre-employment trade assessment conducted at Lehigh County Vocational – Technical School.
  • PC experience and knowledge of basic software applications required to complete time sheets, operate Facilities Management System, Email, documents, AESOP.
Essential Functions / Duties / Responsibilities
  • Maintains, installs and repairs HVACR/Boiler systems and equipment as directed by verbal instructions or the computerized work order system. Examples of systems and equipment would be distribution and controls of heating and cooling systems, motor controls, refrigerant recovery and other devices.
  • Work orders are current, no later than 30 days. Repairs are timely. Will be required to work outside of specific trade as needed.
  • Responds to trouble calls, work requests, and emergency conditions with an appropriate sense of urgency.
  • Procures and maintains an inventory of supplies to ensure equipment down time is kept at a minimum.
  • Conforms to East Penn School District, departmental and contractual policies.
  • Performs functions and interacts with staff, students and community members in a positive, professional and informative manner.
  • Possesses a valid driver’s license appropriate to the classifications of vehicles in the district.
  • Performs other special assignments as directed by supervisory personnel.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, lift, reach, communicate (vision, hearing, and speech), carry or convey sufficient weight to safely and effectively carry out functions, duties, and responsibilities
  • Ability to independently ambulate in and around school buildings and office areas
  • Ability to travel to and from assigned work locations without employer support
