The X-ray technologist is responsible for performing a full range of general radiographic (X-ray) examinations.
Principal Functions And Responsibilities- Performs X-ray procedures in accordance with provider orders and established departmental protocols.
- Operates, monitors, and maintains X-ray equipment, ensuring compliance with quality assurance and safety standards.
- Prepares patients for procedures and provides clear, compassionate communication regarding the imaging process.
- Ensures appropriate patient identification, documentation, and safety practices for all procedures.
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of radiation safety protocols and ALARA principles.
- Maintains accurate documentation of procedures, patient information, and images using PACS and EHR systems.
- Responds to urgent and emergent imaging requests and participates in after-hours, weekend, holiday, and on-call coverage as required.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work environment; promptly reports equipment issues and safety concerns.
- Collaborates effectively with physicians, nurses, and other staff to coordinate patient care and workflow.
- Monitors inventory levels and equipment status; communicates needs to appropriate supervisory personnel.
- Clinical experience in general radiography through an accredited radiologic technology program.
- Familiarity with standard imaging procedures, including chest, abdomen, and extremity X-rays.
- Basic patient care skills, including positioning, assisting with mobility, and ensuring patient comfort.
- Hands‑on experience operating X‑ray equipment, including basic troubleshooting.
- Understanding and familiarity of radiation safety practices and ALARA principles for patient and staff safety, including patient shielding and dose optimization techniques.
- Knowledge of human anatomy (including cross‑sectional anatomy) and physiology relevant to diagnostic imaging.
- Basic proficiency with imaging software and hospital information systems (PACS, RIS, EHR).
- Exposure to clinical workflows in hospital or outpatient settings.
- Two (2) years of experience in general diagnostic radiography in a clinical or hospital setting preferred.
- Demonstrated competency in both trauma and non‑emergent imaging workflows.
- Familiarity with Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and Radiology Information Systems (RIS).
- Basic knowledge of sterile procedures and sterile field maintenance.
- Experience and/or licensure in MRI is advantageous.
Extensive walking, standing. Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients. Lifting, reaching, hand eye coordination, speaking clear vision, motor skills, dexterity, strong interpersonal skills, ability to work independently.
Certification, Registration Or Licensure- ARRT Certification in Radiography (R) required for performing X‑ray procedures.
- BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) current certification from the American Heart Association (or equivalent) is typically required prior to patient care.
Health care environment, possible exposure to patient conditions.
