Your Opportunity as a Senior Process Engineer

The Senior Process Engineer will drive high-performance work culture by engaging with floor technicians, coaching them to problem solve, make decisions, and become self-reliant. The role organizes and prioritizes initiatives with plant leadership to help achieve the plant master plan and long-term vision. The position continues to build skills and capabilities across Operations and Supply Chain by building a solid foundation in how our products are made and how our work system functions.

Location: 1525 Industrial Rd, Emporia, KS 66801 (Hostess Manufacturing Plant)

Work Arrangements: 100% onsite, day shift M-F (flexibility to work off-shifts or weekends as needed)

In This Role You Will
  • Develop an expert level understanding of the manufacturing process, mechanics, instrumentation, and product specifications of your designated line/area; provide technical support to line/area teams.
  • Coach engineers/operating teams and leadership to root cause identification and eliminate losses.
  • Enhance overall safety, quality, and productivity by eliminating defects, identifying and executing loss‑saving initiatives, and building capability in operating teams.
  • Own the Commissioning, Qualification and Verification (CQV) process for new projects; serve as single point of contact and key organizational leader between engineering and operations teams to ensure full involvement during project execution and seamless transition to operations.
  • Address gaps in line/area performance through the implementation of Smucker Continuous Improvement methodologies while fostering a zero‑loss culture.
  • Participate in training and qualification programs for designated line/area; ensure effective training and maintain consistent qualification standards.
  • Manage reliability and quality data for designated line/area in Proficy plant applications software, including improving methods for accurate data collection.
  • Employ effective interpersonal, time and resource management skills to complete project assignments.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • 2+ years of manufacturing experience
  • Self‑motivated and can work well with minimal direct supervision
  • Capable of learning technical processes and systems
  • Willing to travel for Factory Acceptance Tests (Travel may include domestic or international travel, typically 1–2 times per year)
Additional Skills and Experience
  • Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering degree
  • Food manufacturing experience
  • Project management skills and technical problem‑solving capability
  • Demonstrated use of formal problem‑solving methodologies
  • Ability to work and influence within a team environment
Work Environment

This job operates in a manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment and manufacturing sites can be high.

Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Able to lift objects up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • May push and pull heavy equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
