911 Communications Shift Supervisor
Lyon County Emergency Communications Center is seeking a 911 Communications Shift Supervisor. This full-time, non-exempt position is responsible for managing shifts and performing Communications Officer (dispatch) duties. The Shift Supervisor acts as a crucial link between the public and emergency services while leading, overseeing, and training the Communications team. This position is eligible for full-time benefits including health/dental/vision insurance as well as paid time off.
This position may be required to work weekends, nights, and/or holidays. Three years of emergency communications experience is required and at least one year of supervisory experience is preferred. Salary starts at $27.00 to $30.00 per hour, depending on experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION:JOB SUMMARY:
This non-exempt, grade 6 position is crucial as the primary link between the public and emergency services. Communications Shift Supervisors manage shifts and perform Communications Officer duties. As a Communications Officer, you handle emergency and administrative requests, triage situations, and coordinate responses while ensuring safety. Additional duties include leading, overseeing, and training the Communications Officer team.DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK:The employee in this position must accept the responsibility to support and promote this organization's mission and comply with its directives.This is a responsible, skilled position with some administrative duties directly concerned with the development and supervision of the following Communications activities:Supervision and control of the Communications CenterFrontline Communications Officer tasksQuality Assurance of call handling, data entry, and other work performed during shifts and addressing issues as they ariseEnsure NG911 and communications systems are in working orderEnforcement of Center and County policies and proceduresCompliance with EMD/EFD protocols as written by the IAEDServing as a liaison between frontline staff and partner agenciesKeeping the administration apprised of critical issues within the centerMaintain records in accordance with federal, state, and local regulationsEXPECTATIONS:Executing the successful management of the shift that they are assignedSupervises and directs all assigned staff in their span of control in daily activities including but not limited to, radio traffic, call taking, technology review and assessment, as well as any other information processingHandling any concerns or conflicts between staff membersDocuments absences and ensure appropriate shift coverage for shifts that they are assignedEstablishes and assigns workloads as needed and oversees completion of that workEnsures that all call entry into Flex CAD is complete and accurate, and that the shift-to-shift briefing has occurredProcesses employee concerns or disciplines as appropriate. Refers all major disciplinary issues to the Deputy Director or Director for handling and recommends possible action.Documenting any coaching, or correction that has taken place on shiftPerforming evaluations yearly for staff in their span of control in a prompt and unbiased mannerEnsuring daily/week shift management workload is complete and accurateCoaching and training of center staff as neededTo process time off requests to completion, in a timely and fair manner.Being the information liaison between the staff and the administrationShift supervisors attend all Supervisory Meetings and disseminate information to all staff assigned to their span of control preferably face to face.Keep the information flow to staff and to the administration as constant as possible.Advising the administration, or other partners (IT, Command Staff, Maintenance) of issues with communication center equipment immediatelyEffectively maintain and grow the Communications CenterWork to identify training gaps in current staff and assist in coaching or identifying training solutionsDevelop a plan for personal self-development and work with administration to achieve those goalsAssigning or executing cleaning of the center as neededConducting maintenance of the equipment, both scheduled and unscheduled or contacting appropriate personnel when requiredFoster a positive relationship with staff, agencies we serve, and the publicContinually seek ways to engage staff, boost morale, and connect with center staffMARGINAL FUNCTIONS:Documentation of various formsSituational awareness of incidents handled around the room, throughout the county and in neighboring jurisdictionsOther related work as required or directedQUALIFICATIONSExperience:
