As a Lyon County Equipment Operator I, you will maintain, repair, and install culverts of Lyon County in addition to other duties as assigned. You will operate numerous types of construction equipment and vehicles and be responsible for the proper care, inspections, and pre-operation maintenance of the equipment. This position will involve occasionally responding to call-outs potentially at all hours, nights and weekends.
Must be willing and capable of working in extreme weather conditions. The equipment operator I position requires a moderate level of problem solving, decision making, and people skills to efficiently and effectively maintain multiple equipment and roadway concerns. Other duties as assigned.
Non-exempt position with a solid base pay of $21.50/hr. and benefits including: paid time off (accounts credited at 10 hours vacation and 8 hours sick per month worked), vendor discounts, health, dental and vision insurance and much more! We equip and promote exceptional employees!
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- One year of satisfactory operation of road and construction equipment desired.
- Additional equipment operation training or education such as technical or vocational school degree desirable. Equivalent combination of training and/or experience for heavy equipment operation accepted.
- Knowledge of relevant equipment, machines and tools, including their uses, repair and maintenance is desired.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must possess a Class B (Class A preferred) Kansas Commercial Driver's License
- High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent required.

- JOB SUMMARY: This is a non-exempt
* position involving operation of medium and heavy maintenance and construction equipment. It also involves performance of semi-skilled manual tasks.

- j. Perform inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and assist in the servicing and repair of the same.
- k. Observe roads, bridges, culverts, ditches and road signs for maintenance needs and report problems to their supervisor.
- l. Control traffic passing near, in, or around work zones.
- m. Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects.
- n. Turn in daily time sheets and mileage logs as required.
- o. Locate underground services, such as pipes or wires, prior to beginning work.
- p. Operate machinery in a manner that does not cause undue wear and tear to machinery or property.
- q. Operate motor graders, dozers, scrapers, cranes, snowplows, backhoes, loaders and other equipment for all phases of construction and maintenance projects.
- r. Load and unload materials, machinery, and supplies.
- s. Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
