We’re looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer with at least 5 years of experience designing electrical and control systems for water and wastewater facilities. This includes treatment plants, pump stations, storage, and conveyance systems. You’ll work on a variety of projects supporting electrical power distribution, instrumentation, and control systems—from concept through design and construction support. This is a hybrid position with monthly travel tied to our San Diego or Arizona offices.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Design low‑to‑medium‑voltage (120V‑15kV) power distribution systems in compliance with NEC and other codes.
- Develop electrical drawings and documentation, including single‑line diagrams, power & lighting plans, conduit block diagrams, panel schedules, and schematics.
- Design electrical systems, including utility service, power distribution, motor controls, standby power systems, lighting, and grounding.
- Perform electrical load calculations, voltage drop, short circuit analysis, and equipment sizing.
- Design instrumentation and control systems including P&’s, instrumentation, PLCs, SCADA, and communication networks (fiber, copper, radio).
- Define and document hazardous areas per NFPA 820 and NEC 500.
- Edit technical specifications for electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Support construction with shop drawing reviews, RFIs, field inspections, and commissioning.
- Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams and follow CAD and design standards.
- Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in electrical and I&C design for water/wastewater facilities.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD.
- Advanced knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70, NFPA 820, and relevant codes and standards.
- EIT certification.
- Experience designing low‑voltage (120V‑480V) power systems for water/wastewater facilities in compliance with NEC, with light supervision.
- Experience developing P&’s, controls, and comm networks using reference designs and light oversight.
- Independently review electrical, instrumentation, and controls shop drawings and submittals.
- Excellent communication, time management, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage work across multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Valid driver’s license and active auto insurance.
- Actively pursuing PE license.
- Experience designing up to 15kV systems for water and wastewater facilities.
- Proficient in SCADA, motor controls, P&’s, PLC, and telemetry system design.
- Experience with SKM software and performing power system studies.
- Construction observation and commissioning experience.
- Strong ability to independently create and edit E, I&C technical specifications.
