Position

Summary

This non-exempt position in the Operations Department is responsible for performing a variety of duties to maintain an efficient Referrals and Authorizations department which could include obtaining authorizations, scheduling appointments, coordinating physician orders and medical record requests, as well as other various tasks. Communication with staff in all departments is paramount in this position, ensuring that proper care is provided to patients.

This position provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinical services. This position requires a mature and flexible individual who is able to deal with a wide range of personalities and responsibilities. The individual needs to be highly organized and motivated. This position also requires the individual to be able to prioritize the workload while working independently and to have the initiative to think problems through and seek assistance when needed.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Adheres to the company’s insurance and authorization policy by verifying insurance eligibility and benefits and patient demographics, obtaining authorizations and making detailed notes in the patient’s account including documenting conversation and payment arrangements. Initiates requests for authorizations for all services ordered by the physician if authorization is required for other providers.
  • Schedules appointments applicable to the practice.
  • Completes facility or referral vendor paperwork.
  • Maintains referral vendor contact information and geographic location record system so referral logistics can be easily referenced.
  • Ensures that patient scheduling updates, cancellations, or additions are entered into the medical record.
  • Respecting/promoting patient rights; respecting patient confidentiality and privacy and communicating in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Responding appropriately to emergency codes.
  • Carrying out direct or indirect physician orders accurately.
What You Will Bring To The Team
  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D.) or equivalent job-related experience.
  • Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility with front office experience, including insurance eligibility and authorization coordination.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with team members of diverse backgrounds and disciplines.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Knowledge of Health care field and medical office protocols/procedures.
  • Knowledge of Current blood borne pathogen and bio-hazardous waste procedures as they apply to the duties of this position.
  • Knowledge of Medical terms and vocabulary.
