Position: Facilities Technician (Part-time/Contract)

Contract Facilities Technicians work under general supervision and are responsible for maintaining City buildings and facilities.

The Contract Facilities Technician position performs a variety of manual, semiskilled, and skilled duties related to the maintenance and repair of various City and facilities and structures including plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry work, as well as the safe operation of a variety of tools and equipment necessary to perform the tasks assigned. This position will work directly with supervisors to coordinate more technical repairs with licensed contractors.

Work schedule may vary including working weekends and nights.

Facilities Technicians are part-time, temporary positions. Incumbents work less than 500 hours a fiscal year at approximately 10 hours a week. Work schedules may vary and incumbents may be required to work weekends.

Essential Duties

(These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

  • Repairs and replaces fixtures, bulbs, switches, outlets, fluorescent tubes and other minor electrical work; coordinates with contractors for major repairs.
  • Prepares surfaces for wall patching, texturing and painting, paint touch up, and graffiti removal.
  • Replaces intake filters and programming thermostat controls; coordinates with contractors for repairs.
  • Inspects plumbing fixtures including sinks, toilets, faucets and pipes, operating shutoff valves, performs minor leak detection and assessment, and unclogs drain lines; coordinates with contractors for major repairs.
  • Repairs and replaces hinges and handles, installs new locks, repairs or replaces windows.
  • Performs door, cabinetry, and furniture repairs, such as re-attaching arms and legs to chairs, securing chair seats, and adjusting door closers.
  • Works and sets up and breaks down for special events, program events and meetings.
  • Performs minor repairs to interior and exterior building surfaces including ceilings, walls, flooring and roofing.
  • Moves, hauls and repairs or replaces furniture, filing cabinets and other office equipment; hangs pictures and name plates.
  • Operates hand and portable power tools necessary to complete any assigned task.
  • Maintains accurate records of supplies, materials, equipment and time spent on repairs; requests necessary materials, supplies and equipment necessary to perform efficiently and independently to complete maintenance or repair tasks.
  • Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner, providing information within the area of assignment, and resolving complaints in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Responds to emergency maintenance or repair calls.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Knowledge of

  • Perform duties in a manner to maximize public safety in the area of building maintenance and construction;

  • Prepare and maintain complete and accurate records;
