Responsibilities- Oversee and manage a bookkeeping team, ensuring high-quality output and adherence to deadlines.
- Review and maintain accurate financial records using Xero accounting software.
- Oversee the preparation of VAT returns, ensuring all submissions are accurate, complete, and compliant with HMRC regulations.
- Review VAT workings and ensure correct VAT treatment is applied across all transactions.
- Manage and oversee CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) processes, including deductions and filings.
- Perform and review balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Act as the main point of contact for clients, handling queries and providing financial insights.
- Ensure all work is completed in line with internal processes and regulatory standards.
- Support team development, training, and performance management.
- Identify and implement improvements to processes and efficiencies.
- Proven experience in a bookkeeping or accounting role, ideally in a managerial or supervisory capacity.
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Xero
- VAT returns and HMRC compliance
- CIS regulations
- Balance sheet reconciliations - Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build and maintain client relationships.
- Ability to manage and motivate a remote team.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a small team.
- Proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
- AAT qualified or equivalent.
- Experience working in a practice environment.
- Familiarity with additional accounting software or apps.
- Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and compliance in financial reporting.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Good attention to detail and organisation, and a proactive and enthusiastic attitude are essential.
- Experienced and capable using tax software and Microsoft Office.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to support decision-making in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively.
