SEMH Teaching Assistant – EN3
OverviewTeaching Personnel are recruiting committed Teaching Assistants to support pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs in schools across the EN3 area. This role is suitable for individuals confident working with challenging behaviour and motivated to help pupils overcome barriers to learning through consistent, positive support. Full‑time and part‑time opportunities are available, with daily rates of £90–£110
, paid weekly.
- Support pupils who may display challenging behaviour linked to unmet emotional needs, trauma, or regulation difficulties.
- De‑escalate situations, model positive behaviour, and provide consistent boundaries.
- Deliver support on a one‑to‑one basis or in small groups inside classrooms or specialist support areas, keeping pupils engaged and learning.
- Implement behaviour support plans, use restorative approaches, and reinforce positive choices.
- Build trust and rapport with pupils, helping them develop coping strategies, confidence, and improved social skills.
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams to support pupils’ safety, understanding and readiness to engage in education.
- Right to work in the UK and hold a Child‑Only DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one through Teaching Personnel.
- Calm under pressure, adaptable, and confident managing behaviour in a professional and supportive manner.
- Experience working with SEMH, challenging behaviour, care settings, youth work, mentoring or similar roles is highly desirable, though not essential for the right candidate with the right attitude.
- Satisfactory references covering the last three years of employment will be required.
